Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with seriously ill children in hospital. For their Father's Day campaign, the charity needed us to tell the story of Gareth and his family's experience at Camberwell house during their difficult time with the goal of driving donations and awareness - helping dads like Gareth be with their sick child on Father's Day.
We wanted to approach and tell Gareth's story in a way that was delicate and open but triumphant.
To get across the right level of intensity to the audience in all of those areas Gareth needed to tell his story directly down the lens, straight into the pupils of the viewer.
We engineered a selection of touching father-daughter moments around the house - Helping her up the stairs, tying her tiny bootlace, pushing her in a toy car and cuddle in the sunny garden. Shot in slow-motion and on fast Zeiss prime lenses the dream-like perfection of these moments were exaggerated further.
We were absolutely blessed with little George running to her dad, mid-take, as he closed his sentence. This undoubtedly was our close for the film!
